Volunteers are always appreciated!
We have multiple ways volunteers can help, both within and outside of our walls. Most opportunities are within our normal business hours (MWF 10-2 in Martinsville; MWF 9-12 and Th 6-8pm in Mooresville). Below are a few of the possibilities
Children & Teens: we ask that volunteers in our building be age 14 or older and begin their first few volunteering days with a parent/guardian to determine best fits and possibilities. There are still MANY possible ways to help.
- We always need clothing and shoes for school-age children and teens, especially at the start of the new school year. Please have your children sort and bring items for the current season, as we don’t have extra storage for off-season clothing.
- With notice, we can set up a time for a youth group, Scout troop, or other group of kids/teens to assist with larger-scale projects.
- We can use sets of utensils (knife, fork & spoon with napkins in a baggie) or sets of trial sized hygiene items (soap, shampoo, washcloth, toothpaste & toothbrush, etc.) in a baggie to hand out with our kits for those who are without shelter and appreciate pre-made kits.
Family/Group Projects: many hands make light work, and when a group has a common goal great things can happen! Some of our favorite projects include:
- Grow A Row -add an additional row of any produce items to your family or community garden and bring us the items you’re able to share. We love being able to give out fresh produce in our grocery orders.
- Donation Drives – give us a call about most-needed items and we can talk through various possible donation drives. We’ve had some creative groups come up with Souper Bowl soup drives or Super BOWL toilet paper drives, domino-fall cereal drives, and much more!
- Timely Collections – if you can collect gently used coats from friends and neighbors in late October as the weather begins to chill, gently used tennis shoes in late July when students are about to go back to school, or similar collections to share with our families, we would be very appreciative.
Donation Pickups / Deliveries – we appreciate the help of those with vans, pickup trucks, trailers, and/or SUVs who can help us get additional food items from pantry pickups, food rescues, etc. Many of these are on pre-set routes during the business day – some might be weekly, while others are every other week or monthly. If you’re interested/available, please email us to learn more.
Hope House Helpers – we can use help with our classes and Family Fun Night activities. Please email Hope House Coordinator Kelli Webb to learn more about any of these:
- We appreciate sponsors for Family Fun Night, a dinner for up to 60 people on the third Thursday evening of the month.
- If you have a large amount of craft items or would be interested in helping with a daytime craft/activity class.
- If you are interested in helping with our Hope House garden.
Regular Hour Volunteers – we appreciate adult volunteers during our regular business hours (MWF 10-2 in Martinsville; MWF 9-12 and Th 6-8pm in Mooresville). We are especially in need of people who can commit to a regular schedule (every Monday, every other Wednesday, etc.) to help with various tasks, including the following:
- Learning data entry and handling computer work
- Sorting clothing and other donations
- Organizing hygiene and other items for distribution
- And other duties as needed.
Volunteer opportunities normally take place during our open pantry hours, but other possibilities are available.
